I've had my mid-2015 MacBook Pro for about 6 months (and an iMac for about 3 years) which didn't have a CD/DVD read/write drive. I thought about getting the Apple version, but it's kind of expensive for just a few hours a use a month, at best. I really got this to start looking through my thousands of photos stored on DVDs and CDs, and so far it works perfectly.

I opened the box, plugged it into a USB 3.0 port (and no, this drive is USB 2.0, but DVD/CD drives just aren't fast enough to ever need USB 3.0) on my MacBook Pro, and I was good to go. You don't need drivers or anything (and some of you who think it's necessary for a Mac, really need to understand how a Mac works with peripherals). It was truly plug and play. Great device, high quality, looks nice, and works with.

I like the Dell DW316 External USB DVD+-RW drive. It is perfect for laptops or any computer without a working internal optical drive. It is a nicer than average USB 2.0 DVD+-RW drive in an above average package.The DW316 comes with Cyber Link Media Suite to facilitate reading/burning CD/DVD media and playing DVD movies on PC's (A nice add-on).

It also works perfectly on Mac laptops. I like Dell products. I've used them in the past and I feel confident in the brand. Is this worth more than a [[ASIN:B00MLXA1KI SAMSUNG TSST SE-218GN/RSBD]] drive that's a little thicker but otherwise similar?

For people who want an all Dell environment, yeah! The DW316 it has a single USB connection unlike some older technology USB 2.0 burners which require 2 for enough power. The newer design of the DW316 has better power efficiency than those older drives. Physically it's just about 5.

The DVD drive supports all major DVD types and models and so far haven’t come across any major problems with it. The DVD Drive doesn’t make any more noise than the average inbuilt DVD Drive in laptops.

It is priced well and hence I would recommend it to others. I have ordered this for my own use, because I have a Chromebook with no DVD drive. This is exactly what I am looking for. It is small in size, light in weight and easy to install and use.

This DVD player/writer is primarily designed to be portable and is best suited for notebooks and lap tops; however, there is no problem hooking it up to a desk top machine, and it comes with software for both PC's and Mac's, working with a whole array of Windows operating systems from Windows 8.1 on down. This unit does not come with its own power cord, and a powered USB connection is required; it will not operate if plugged into a USB bank that is not powered. Plug it directly into a USB port on your computer or a powered USB bank, and you'll be good to go. This External DVD/CD Player works as advertised. I connected it to my Surface Pro4 since there is no dvd/cd drive. This player worked like a charm. There were no drivers to install, just plug and play.

I did have to buy an app to play the dvds since my Pro doesn't have a player software. Discs played with no problems. Is there updated software for my mac i can get to use my samsung dvd writer se-208. The cord from the DVD player is about 6' long so the drive must be placed close to my Surface Pro4.

Thanks Pemenol! I bought a new laptop that did not have a dvd/cd drive and needed to add programs to it that I have on disk, this ASUS ZenDrive does just what I need it to do! Plug in and start downloading, it didn't seem to take very long. I give it the 5 stars it deserves. The only thing I can complain about the unit itself is the length of the cords, too short, I am using it in an awkward position, I have my laptop on a board on my lap and have enough room on the side to put this drive. It just fits and works great but I would of preferred a longer cord so that I could set it off on my side table.
