G Tech 1tb For Editing Movies Mac
Question: Q: Seagate FreeAgent for Mac 1TB or LaCie 1TB? I'm interested to know the detail of what makes OWC, G-Tech and CalDigit faster to edit with then the Seagate? Also, out of those three (OWC, G-Tech or CalDigit) - which one is quieter? Feb 14, 2009 3:39 PM Reply Helpful. Thread reply - more options. Link to this Post.
I bought this drive for my daughter who is using it to do a lot of film editing on her Macbook Air. It was easy to take it right out of the box, plug it in and go. It's nice that it draws power from the computer with no extra cables, only the USB2.0 connection. It makes it very portable. She has transferred her entire digital film library onto it and uses it to do her editing. There is no lag in playback when working off the drive, so she's very happy with the speed of the drive. Overall, I'd highly recommend this drive.
I've had this drive for about three weeks and am very happy with it. It is my secondary backup drive on my laptop. Free vector software for mac.
I use Time Machine to back up my Macbook Pro to my primary drive. Every 3-4 days I bring my G-Tech drive home from my office and do a complete, secondary backup of my system.
It only takes a few minutes. Next day it goes back to my office. It couldn't be simpler; it connects to my Macbook Pro via USB, does its work quietly, then it goes back into my briefcase for its trip back to my office. I'd buy this drive again, and have actually purchased another one for my daughter who's a sophomore in college. This drive is small, does not require a power supply, and is fast enough for a Time Machine backup device, which typically only needs to save less than a few hundred MB every update session. The drive is essentially silent. The small size allows me to swap and save a backup in a safe deposit box, so even if some catastrophe happens at my house, I have all my photographs and financial information safe in another location.
I cannot attest to the long time reliability, but the drive has worked flawlessly so far.
