My Mac Says An Excel File Is Locked For Editing All The Time
We spent the last week checking out some of the best free RPG games for Mac. Despite the fact that there aren’t many free-to-play titles for Mac, we’ve tried to keep the list as diverse as possible. Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is a free to play Team based arena style action RPG that is very similar to DotA (Defense of the Ancients - a Warcraft 3 Mod). League of Legends. League of Legends is a creation of Riot Games inspired by the classic Warcraft III mod Dota (Defense of the Ancients). And with the Battle for Azeroth expansion, WoW is set to become the best Mac MMORPG 2018 will deliver. Real Pricing: WoW offers a free trial that goes to level 20 but if you want to play this seriously, the game costs $49.99 up-front (including the all the expansions) and requires $14.99 per month. If you prefer your RPGs futuristic instead of fantasy, Wasteland 2 is, without doubt, one of the best Mac RPG games you can find (and Wasteland 3 is coming to MacOS too). $59.99┊Humble Bundle System Requirements: OS 10.5, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 330 or Radeon equivalent wit 512 MB of Video RAM, 30 GB hard drive space. The best 50 RPG games for Mac OS daily generated by our specialised A.I. Comparing over 40 000 video games across all platforms for Mac OS. The order in this selection is not absolute, but the best games tends to be up in the list.
No, I am not restoring or opening backed-up files. I just went into my iMac and double-clicked an Excel file. I got an error message that it was read-only like this: --- 'My Library' cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.
I am very frustrated with my Excel 2003. It crashes all the time. My boss says that I should not using complex spread sheets. The IT says it is because o my spread sheet.
--- I did a 'Get Info' on the file to see if it was locked but it was not. Then I recalled that I had activated Time Machine last night. I tried other Excel files and all would not open with the same error message. Files DO open when I move then to my MacBook, however. All permissions are 'Read & Write'. @KarenSelena Thank you SO MUCH!
I want to apologize for taking your time with this as I should have known to at least restart. I've been a Mac user (solely Macs) since 1986! *banging head* I don't know if restarting solved this or if it was your suggestion with the Control Key but all Excel files now open. @Barney-15E I'm sorry but the file used in my example was a poor one. This is my actual library (real books!) data base file that I was trying to access. Sorry for the confusion and also thank you for your help! I realize this is an older thread but I just ran into this issue with a restore from Time Machine backup on a clean install Mac OS X 10.9.
It seems that the issue has nothing whatsoever to do with the file in question or the permissions or the ownership of that file and everything to do with hidden files. If Excel saved a temporary file then you will not be able to edit the file until you delete the temp file - which is hidden. So what you want to do is the following: Open a Terminal Session and paste in: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool YES The paste in: killall Finder Go to the folder where the offending file is and find the copy of that file that is prefixed with ~$ and delete it Then past in: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool NO The paste in: killall Finder or you could leave hidden files visible for a time until you clean up everything - then turn em off when you get cleaned up.

For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets If ws.Visible = True Then CurSheetName = ws.Name Sheets(CurSheetName).Copy ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=MyFolder & ' ' & CurSheetName & '.xlsx', _ FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbook, CreateBackup:=False Workbooks(CurSheetName & '.xlsx').Close SaveChanges:=False End If Next MsgBox 'Done!' Youll want to replace the for loop with the above. I added in an if statement to only do the copy if the sheet is visible, if it is not then it just moves on to the next week. A useful way of narrowing down file locks is to go to the server and use the 'Open Files' node in Computer Management --> System Tools --> Shared Folders. Here you will see a list of files that are currently open on the network share and who has it locked.
