Hi, A user is experiencing an odd problem. We have Office 2010 standard. When the user saves files to a shared network folder, and keeps them open on the computer, after a while they become Read Only, which forces the user to save them in a different name. I've tried solving it by doing the following in options: 1.Disabling Auto Recover and Autosave. Unchecking the 'open email attachments in reading view'. 3.Disabling Protected View. 4.Adding the network folder location to Trusted Locations.

The problem still persists though. Will be glad for any help. Kodi replacement for mac. Ahhh yes, this is definitely the issue we ran into then, but unfortunately I don't have a fix for it. We addressed it as I mentioned in my first post - when a user reported a file was opening as 'read only' we had them close it and popped into the file server to close it as well (since it was stuck showing that it was open by someone).

After doing that the user was able to open the file normally. We had a policy that users were supposed to reboot their computers once per day, and suggested to do so at the end of the day, to ensure that programs and files were not left open. Anytime a user would complain about a broken file like this, we'd gently remind of the reboot policy. The majority of our users did their daily reboots after awhile which cut down on this issue. While I left the company before any other possible solutions were implemented, one thing we were talking about was doing forced reboots by GPO at 10pm or so. This would be late enough that any people working remotely wouldn't be affected, but would still make sure that any open files would be closed before they got stuck as read-only.

I'm betting your running into an SMB issue like I did. Due to a slow connection. Spent 3 days or so trying to figure it out.  Long story short.disable SMB on the remote workstation. To disable SMBv2 and SMBv3 on the SMB client, run the following commands: sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled If you want to test that SMB 2.0/3.0 is the issue, if you have a Windows 2003 server at the same site as the 2008, try creating/editing files saved to that server. If it works fine every time.it's SMB.. Unfortunately, neither of the suggestions above, although both good, was applicable to the specifics of my problem.

We do not use file redirection, and I made sure the users did not have the file open in the Preview Pane when the problem occurred. The problem is extremely intermittent and infrequent, which I suppose is a good thing, though it makes troubleshooting nearly impossible. After nearly a year, I've given up. Using Save As instead of Save is a workaround, and it's what my users are doing on the rare occasions when this problem occurs. So a couple troubleshooting steps I'd try. First, have her log on with her profile on a different computer. Open the file both locally and off the network and see if the issue persists.

Next have a different user log onto her computer and open the file both locally and from the network. Also try opening the file, saving as a new file, then have her try opening the new file on her pc, someone else's, and have someone try on hers (to rule out a partially corrupt document). If it's not a confidential document, can you PM it to me or share here? Either way, I have some settings ideas I'll play around with when I get to work.
