Ok, so I have a machine that I have just installed 9.10 i386 on, and I am having a huge problem installing my wireless driver. I have used windows for years, and know pretty much all the ins and outs of that, as well as Mac OS X, but i have used Ubuntu very little. I would like to get to know it, but I haven't been able to do much, as I have no internet connection.

I have a Medialink wireless N USB adapter and it came with Linux drivers. It is the second one down, the RT3070. I have no idea how to install these, there are tons of files in there, none of which seem to do anything. I figured out how to extract, but I have no clue where to go from there, the readme is nonsense to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have a Acer Aspire 4530 laptop which had an internal Atheros wireless adapter which was losing connection strength [not very good in the first place] as the computer/adapter got warmer, so I bought a Medialink MWN-USB150N Wireless USB Adapter. Osx-junk-player. Medialink says to install the drivers first, then plug in the adapter, I had read of some problems XP and W7 users had doing this, so I just booted with it plugged in [Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows Vista Home on this same computer.] and it worked the first time, no install, no problem! On my wife's Gateway laptop [forget model number, 2009 model] which was connected via an internal wireless adapter, it was detected immediately and it went out on the Internet and found drivers, which worked after I disabled internal wlan and rebooted.

I will try it on my XP Pro desktop soon, and I will use the same method, and am not anticipating problems, but will report back if it doesn't work. This adapter connects instantly with a very strong fast connection, I have this laptop upstairs at the other end of the house [around 80']from my router and have a 100% connection, sometimes 98% or 95%, but not for long. My house is an 1884 Victorian with 12' ceilings and thick walls and floor, old adapter was 75% at best, when not yet hot, then lower. I am very happy with this adapter, and I suggest you try the easiest way first, just plug it in.
